Stud Services and Sales

Choosing the right stud male is essential if your breeding aim is to build improvement into each successive generation of alpaca. Producing healthy strong-framed suris with excellent conformation and quality fleeces should be first on the list. Fine tuning your requirements according to your breeding goals and selected females is the next step.

MATING OPTIONS

On Farm Mating. Your female or females (along with their cria if needed) are offered free agistment at our farm. You just select the stud male. During her stay we carefully supervise pen matings as required. Your animals can stay until confirmed pregnant by vet ultrasound scanning at your cost or by spit off.

Mobile Mating. We can visit your farm with the selected male for a supervised pen mating. We also return for spit off tests or re-mate if required. (South Auckland/North Waikato free – further afield a small charge will apply).

Drive-by Mating. If you prefer, just bring your female to our farm for a drive in/drive out mating. You will need to have a male available for spit offs and arrange for her pregnancy scanning if desired.

Live birth guarantee - All services by our stud males are backed by our live birth guarantee. In the unfortunate event of a pregnancy not resulting in a live birth or should the cria not survive the first two weeks of life, you are offered a free return service to the male.

**Shadow Wood Ultimatum**
Fine dense fleece. Quite fine boned but had produced some excellent cria. He has excellent genetics with his Sire being Baarrooka Ultimate Grove and his dam is Canchones Panzent.

**Shadow Wood Legacy**
Legacy is a beautifully framed male. He has some interesting genetics being a grandson of Surico Evening Siesta. Certified with one cria so far, Shadow Wood Amigo. Legacy has many white fibres and I suspect will have the roan pattern as it’s appearing in his fleece now.

**Shadow Wood Triumphant**
Triumphant is a AANZ certified stud male but does not have any progeny yet. We hope to see him working well soon. Both his Sire (Canchones Bravio) and his Grandmother (Thistledown Tempest) were know for holding a very fine fleece. We feel Triumphant is following in this path.

**Shadow Wood Amarone**
Amarone is a potential stud male, not yet certified. He is showing characteristics of a fine fleece from his dams side (Shadow Wood Corvina) and strong bone and density from his sires side (Shadow Wood Freedom Fighter). He has a calm nature and is a favourite who we will watch with interest when he commences stud duties.

**Shadow Wood Beachcomber**
Beachcomber is a potential stud male from an excellent mix of genetics. His sire is Surico Tasman, his Dam is Shadow Wood Luminary. Beachcomber won Supreme Suri at the Rotorua A&P Show 2024.

Potential Stud Males

From time to time we have potential stud males that are definitely worth a look at. Shadow Wood Pacifico and Beachcomber have done well at the shows, each winning Supreme Suri. Shadow Wood Brancusi (under contract) is another of our males with potential. Fleece statistics are available for almost all of our Shadow Wood alpacas. Young promising males are Triumphant, Galaxy and Chevrolet.
